I was disappointed in this book: it was not what I expected. What I expected? Stories about women bravely making the move to Mexico alone. What these essays were often about: women moving to Mexico with their spouses, or because they had a friend or relative there, or even a job waiting. Stories of women leaving, by choice, great jobs and incomes and "all-American" lifestyles to do something "different". Women with savings and resources and a comfort zone. Not particularly brave women. Very few of these stories spoke to me. There were also factual errors and some pretty bad writing. Yes, these were essays written by non-writers, in many cases. But they were compiled and edited by a professional journalist, so I expected more in the way of editing. There are not a lot of specific tips or facts or figures here- more a lot of personal reflections, opinions, and observations. This collection was not very helpful or inspiring. Too bad, because I am a single female planning to move to Mexico, having traveled there for decades, and I was hoping for more usable content. Note to editor: maybe should have used your website photo on the book, rather than the one on the jacket cover.... more relatable! People with money leaving the US. Bleh.
